Thoughtful Gifting

Let’s talk about gifts! With Christmas soon approaching it’s time to think about how to create a little smile on your loved ones‘ face. So wie would like to share with you our gift ideas where you really can put your heart into. We ourselves have have used these ideas on several occasions – not only Christmas, but they’re also perfect for birthdays or general surprises – and would like to inspire and to encourage you to try it yourself!

Paintings on Canvas

A selfmade painting on canvas is a wonderful present. The presentee can hang it up in their home and would always think of the person who they got it from. Concerning painting the artwork there are no limits – go by your intuition, try different things, go crazy and just start! If you don’t like it you could always paint it white and start over again – something Desi also likes to do in her painting sessions. You can find canvases on stretcher frames and other materials and equipment at pretty much any local art supplies (Berlin: e.g. Modulor, Boesner) where you could also consult the staff. We think the best way to showcase paintings is to have them framed – this way they really look deluxe! For example Desi used a frame out of lime wood (pictured above) – both in it’s natural color as well as a darker version for which she had stained the frame with a walnut tree color.
Alternatively you could also gift a painting kit – painting is a great way to clear one’s mind.

Sculptural objects and vases

We pretty much have the same concept but with clay. Give a jewelry tray, a fruit bowl or a vase as a present for Christmas – made and painted with your hands! It’s also a very relaxing process anyway. As seen in the August vlog we’ve used air-hardening modelling clay so far but there’s also clay you can put into your oven – the end result turn out to be a bit smoother.

Prints of meaningful memories

The third gift idea is by far not groundbreaking but during Corona with contact restrictions, social distancing and limited possibilities photo prints take on greater meaning. For example you could gift your friend a framed large-sized picture from a vacation or a trip you’ve spent together which you then send her/him in a package. Another good idea: take a photo of you or a photo of you and your family (that’s inside your contact bubble), get it printed and framed and send it to your grandparents. It’s advisable not to visit them during the festive season this year for the sake of their safety and health. Of course a photo is no substitute for proximity but we’re sure that this will put a smile on their faces!
There are lots of places that offer prints and frames. To give you an example: we used WhiteWall several times and weren’t disappointed.

Support Small Businesses

The materials linked in this article are mainly to give you an overview and to illustrate the overall idea. In fact we would like to encourage you to shop for your Christmas gifs, wrapping materials and gift cards and small businesses or your local shops – in a year like 2020 that would be particularly helpful.

Here’s a small selection auf small(er) businesses we’ve discovered via Instagram over the past year:

    1. Hi Nat! Thank you for your feedback! And thank you for sticking around despite not speaking German :D I have to admit, we are totally not up on our translation game here on the blog. My plan was to translate this post tomorrow morning, maybe you can have another look some time tomorrow then if you want!
As for the other posts – thankfully we are not bloggers who write a lot in the first place hehe, but will definitely try to be more consistent with translating! 🖤

  1. So schöne Ideen!

    Nele
